The Sustainability Bag: A Move-In Gift With a Purpose

Issue Date:
September 10, 2012

From the bag itself to the sticker inside, each item represents Pitt's comitment to living a more sustainable life on campus. This year, thanks to Pitt’s Green Fund, students moving into the residence halls received an eco-friendly surprise—sustainable gift bags filled with “green” goods. How does each item help the environment? From the bag itself to the sticker inside, each item represents Pitt’s commitment to living a more sustainable life on campus.

Bags: Students can use them when they go to the Quick Zone or Market-to-Go on campus, or anywhere else they shop. By reusing this bag, students are helping the University reduce plastic waste. (Note: Plastic bags at Quick Zone locations will be available only upon request.)

Mugs: Students can use these when they visit any on-campus coffee station, such as Cathedral Coffee, the Common Grounds in the Towers Lobby, or the Cup and Chaucer in Hillman Library, and they will receive 25 cents off their purchase. After five visits, they can enjoy a free cup of coffee in their new mug by using a coffee card.

Bike maps: Thanks to Bike PGH, students can find the best route around town. Emissions-free transport is healthy and admirable. If students don’t own a bike, there are bike programs offered through Pitt’s Parking and Transportation Services (www.pts.pitt.edu/Commuting/bicycling).

Stickers: A Pitt sticker is the perfect way for students to wear their sustainable pride.
