Newsmakers: 33rd Annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival
A Celebration of Culture
Pitt’s 33rd annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival began with flair as the Slippery Rock University’s Department of Dance paid tribute to the women in Colombia, who throughout history, have participated in the agricultural process and production of corn. Their dance portrayed the demanding physical activity required for agrarian labor, but also presented the camaraderie created amongst the workers. The March 23 daylong festival, held in Posvar Hall, also featured children’s activities and vendors offering a variety of cuisines and arts-and-crafts objects. The festival was sponsored by Pitt’s Center for Latin American Studies, Med Health Services, and the Pittsburgh Cardiovascular Institute.
