Newsmakers: A Celebration of Teaching
Excellence in teaching was honored during a Jan. 22 reception hosted by Pitt Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg and Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor Patricia E. Beeson. The event, held in Alumni Hall’s Connolly Ballroom, recognized Pitt professor and Charles Crow Chair in English David Bartholomae, who was named the 2013 Pennsylvania Professor of the Year. The celebration of teaching brought together numerous Pitt faculty who have won awards for their teaching talent. The gathering included past recipients of the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award, the Tina & David Bellet Teaching Excellence Awards, and the Ampco-Pittsburgh Prize for Excellence in Advising, among others. Bartholomae’s award was part of the U.S. Professors of the Year Awards Program, which is sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
