Panther Football Season Tickets Are Almost Sold Out
When the Pitt Panthers kick off the 2013 football season on Sept. 2, University season-ticket holders will be packing the seats at Heinz Field.
More than 90 percent of the University’s season-ticket packages have been purchased, said Pitt Associate Athletic Director Chris Ferris. By comparison, the University had about 70 percent of its season tickets sold at this point in 2012.
Ferris said all Heinz Field suites as well as club-level and lower-level seats are sold out. In addition, Pitt is on track to sell out its student-only season tickets for a fifth consecutive year, as more than 60 percent of those tickets have been sold. There are now fewer than 8,000 general season tickets and 4,000 student season tickets remaining to be sold.
Ferris attributed Pitt’s increased rate of sales to several factors, including the fact that this is Pitt’s inaugural season within the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). “This is going to be our first year in the ACC, and that has created quite a bit of national buzz for our program. Also, I think head coach Paul Chryst and his staff have developed a highly competitive team that has a lot of Pitt fans excited about 2013.”
Pitt faculty and staff members are eligible to receive a 20 percent discount on football season tickets, which brings the most basic seats to $92 per season. Student season tickets are a flat $25 and include a free Panther T-shirt. There will be seven home games.
Formerly a member of the Big East Conference, Pitt switched to the ACC on July 1 and its first season in the AAC offers the potential for wider media exposure and the development of new rivalries. Pitt’s inter-conference home schedule will include the season opener against Florida State as well as games with the University of Virginia, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Miami. Other home games include contests with the University of New Mexico, Old Dominion University, and the University of Notre Dame.
