Pitt Lecture by Philanthropist Leslie Crutchfield Set for Dec. 1

The Philanthropy Forum at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) will present a lecture by author and philanthropist Leslie Crutchfield. Hosted by GSPIA’s Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership, the lecture will take place at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in Ballroom B of the University Club.

Crutchfield will preview her upcoming book, Do More Than Give: The Six Practices of Donors Who Change the World (Jossey-Bass, 2011), and discuss the strategies involved in moving philanthropic efforts away from simple grantmaking toward social change.

A renowned expert in the fields of nonprofits, social innovation, and high-impact philanthropy, Crutchfield is the coauthor of the book Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits (Wiley, 2008). A study of 12 high-impact nonprofits, including Teach for America and Habitat for Humanity, the book was named one of The Economist’s Best Books of 2007.

GSPIA’s Philanthropy Forum offers a university-based setting to explore philanthropy’s impacts and intentions. Through research and exchange with philanthropic leaders, the forum highlights previous advances in the field in order to understand future developments.
