Proposal Sought to Merge School of Information Sciences, Department of Computer Science
Pitt Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor Patricia Beeson has invited the faculties in the School of Information Sciences and the Department of Computer Science in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences to develop a proposal that would incorporate both faculties into a single academic and administrative unit.
“This request was motivated by the widely held belief that our institutional strength in this increasingly important area of inquiry could be enhanced through a structure that allows for greater integration and coordination of both the research and academic programs,” Beeson said in an April 10 letter.
The faculties of both entities have been asked to submit a proposal to the provost by the end of the 2015-16 academic year. Any new academic structure will require review by the appropriate School-and University-wide governance processes.
