Scene: We Are the World
Nearly 3,800 of Pitt’s new students gathered Aug. 20 on the Petersen Events Center lawn to form an image of the world globe with LED lights. This year’s formation is part of an annual Pitt tradition to have the incoming freshman class attempt to break a world record during New and Transfer Student Orientation week. The aim this year is for Pitt to reclaim its previous Guinness record—the largest torch-lit image formed by people—that it broke in 2010 when first-year students used glow sticks to spell out P-I-T-T.
