Smiths’ Challenge Benefits WDUQ-FM Pledge Drive
Pitt English professors Philip and Susan Harris Smith have been participating in WDUQ-FM pledge drives for as long as Fred Serino, the station’s development director, can remember. The couple traditionally issues a matching-gift challenge in support of the fund raising drives, which take place every February and October.
On Feb. 15, the Smiths posed a challenge for 30 member of the University community to pledge within 30 minutes. WDUQ-FM received 37 calls from Pitt people, and the Smiths’ challenge ended up raising $4,000 (including the couple’s own contribution) for the station, according to Serino.
The WDUQ pledge drive will continue through Feb. 24.
