Trustees Approve Bruce Hall Renovation, Research Space Lease
The Property and Facilities Committee of the University of Pittsburgh’s Board of Trustees voted Dec. 12 to approve the first step of a $7,795,000 renovation of Bruce Hall. The project is expected to generate 67 construction and construction-related jobs. The committee also approved a 10-year lease for space in the Rivertech Office Works complex on the South Side for the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition.
The Bruce Hall project comprises interior and infrastructure upgrades, including storm and sanitary piping, creation of new handicapped accessible bathrooms, replacement of obsolete air handling units, and upgrades of door security hardware. The total project will be funded entirely from auxiliary reserves.
The Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is currently leasing 7,790 square feet of office and laboratory space in the Rivertech complex. The new lease will expand the space to 11,667 square feet. The current space is occupied by the department’s multiple research programs, and the increased space reflects those programs’ continued research-funded growth. The department currently receives $44.2 million in research funding, and additional growth is expected.
